Strategic
Planning on Mobility Rusults in Coalition for City Heights
Residents, Businesses and Stakeholders
City
Heights, San Diego-On Saturday, July 14, 2007, several organizations
and resident representatives throughout City Heights gathered
to discuss mobility issues in the Mid-City region of San
Diego.
City Heights Community Development Corporation (CHCDC) led
the strategic session in a collaborative effort to address
vital mobility issues facing City Heights. Guest speakers
provided informative presentations on walking, biking, and
public transportation concerns in the community. These presentations
included the current challenges, positive solutions and
the needed next steps toward change.
The participants were divided into specific breakout groups
to further discuss major issues and then they defined the
action steps that would be needed during the next 6 months.
City Heights residents spoke about the need for the CenterLine
Transit System as they shared their personal stories of
struggle and missed opportunities due to the lack of Bus
Rapid Transit in the Mid-City area.
In concluding the session, individuals were asked to make
commitments on behalf of their organizations to participate
in the identified action steps of mobility and to support
coalition efforts. The pledge was unanimous.
Closing remarks from many participants revealed an excitement
of organization representatives and residents joining together
as a coalition to speak with one voice for the greater good
of the entire community.
Special thanks to all those who participated and have made
commitments to actively promote mobility in City Heights
